Beanie Boos (Buddies)
Our thanks to Marc, who shares the following:
3/10/10 (Correction ... The Beanie BOO Buddy set, if you buy all 5, is $45.00 instead of $48.00. This was a later decision we made to change.)Hi Deb,
Here are pictures of the latest Beanie BOOS/Beanie Buddies crossover series. They have Beanie BOOS hang tags but on the retailer site and main Ty site they are categorized with/classified as Beanie Buddies. One way or the other, these are spitting images of the smaller BOOS (although I can't tell on all because Cookie and Safari regular sized BOOS have not shipped for us yet.) We are almost completely out of stock (there should be at least a full set left, maybe some others) but I may be putting in another order since they're doing so well. If anybody is interested, feel free to get in touch with me. They are $9.99 each or buy the full set and save a few bucks - $48.00 for the set of 5.

My Ty Bears TBB Promo at McDonald's Malaysia - 2006 - Additional Info /
Photos
As you know, on Thursday, March 4th, photos were shared by a reader
(Mary) of the 2006 McDonald's Malaysia Teenie Beanie Babies. Today she
shares additional photos for comparison - the original set vs the set just
purchased in an auction. If you have a set of these bears, and can share
additional info (especially in regards to the mysterious My HearTy Bears), drop
us a note. I somehow find it difficult to believe that there's only one
bear out there, whether authentic or not. We would all like to resolve
this question. Thanks!

Teenie Beanie Baby Promo at McDonald's Malaysia (2006) ... Compilation of Readers' Comments
Following the news posted on Thursday (March 4) on the Ty HearTy TBB Malaysia bear,
I have compiled readers' comments below. I would really like to see more
photos of the Malaysia Ty Bears to compare; there's some confusion as to what
was actually released, their authenticity, special promo? etc. Notice the
difference in the packaging, and the additional bear in the second photo?
If you can help with some additional information, I'd love to hear from you.

Hello, I just wanted to comment on the 4 Ty Bears Malaysia. I have 2 sets that were sent to me from a friend in Malaysia.. There was no green MyHearTY bear in either collection.... Now I want one... Eva in Columbus(Posted March 6)
Hi Doodle, I haven't heard of the My HearTy bear. Maybe that set is a special promo set that was only given to the employees? Be sure to let us all know when you find something out. Thks, Alecia(Posted March 6)
Hi Deb, I was interested to read about this HearTy bear on your site recently. My take on the items is that all five of these My Ty Teenies could be from a subsequent promotion or possibly fake. The reason I say this is because a photo of the My Ty Teenie bags on Aboutbeanies.com shows a completely different bag for the My Ty Teenies. I have attached the photo of the bags. I must say that the My Ty Teenies have been one of the most elusive and mysterious releases ever. I tried to buy them back when they were first released, but I got scammed by someone on Ebay. I would still love to own them, but can never find a listing anymore. Any idea where I could look?
Thanks for continuing to be my #1 source for Beanie News!!

Photos of 'Flower'
On February 16th, Ty posted the
official introduction of 'Flower',
the Ty UK Exclusive (meerkat) Beanie Baby. (This Beanie appeared on
February 9th in Ty's current listing. ) Our thanks to Jen of Abbey Bears
for sharing some cute photos of the Beanie ... check out the smile :)
Jen writes:
Hi Deb, Just to update you on the latest UK exclusive, FLOWER the Meerkat has finally arrived in store, he is adorable ( as you can hopefully see from the inhand pics I have added )
He is available from us here at Abbey Bears and works out at £5.99 + £2 Shipping/P+P for the first beanie and then just an extra 75pence on the Shipping cost for each beanie after that, so 2 would work out at £11.98 + £2.75 Shipping/P+P.
In US$ that all works out at roughly.......
$12 including Shipping for 1 Flower Beanie and then
$22 including Shipping for 2 Flower Beanies
etc, etc, etc
Hope this makes sense
many thanks to one and all,
from Jen ;)

Teenie Beanie Baby Promo at McDonald's Malaysia - 2006
OK, I'm a bit confused ... perhaps someone can add some input to the
email I received (posted below). As a bit of background, on December 4,
2006, we posted news of the Teenie Beanie Baby promo at McDonald's Malaysia.
As seen in the table below (and posted on our
Teenie Beanie Baby page) ,
there were eight (8) TBB's and four (4) "Ty Bears" in the Malaysia promo.
That's what we reported at the time, anyway. One of our readers,
Mary, reports of a "My HearTY Bear"
that was also included in that group. Did we know? .... hmmm, that one's a
memory tester. If you can share any additional information, feel free to
write and let us know.

Doodle's note: Mary shares
the following:
Hello Deb, ... I just recently bid on and won an auction and was very pleasantly surprised that it included a My HearTy Bear from the My Ty Bears 2006 McDonald's Malaysia Promotion. Seeing that I had not heard of or seen this particular version previously I checked your website and confirmed that there were only four My Ty Malaysia Exclusive Bears listed and not the My HearTy Bear. I would be interested to know if you or others may have seen this particular bear previously. I spoke with Karen Holmes earlier today and she thought that you might be interested in this information being someone who works so diligently to keep Ty products updated on your website. I will attempt to send you pictures of My HearTy Bear. Thank you for keeping Ty collectors updated with all the latest news.
Take care, Mary - New Hampshire, USA

Notes from Readers
In response to yesterday's note regarding Beanie Baby Exclusives,
several readers have shared their opinions/comments; the posts are noted below.
Many collectors (including myself) consider the "specialty" store's Ty Beanie
Babies (ie Walgreens, Barnes & Noble, etc.) as "U.S. Exclusives".
Hey Deb, I was reading the site today and wanted to comment on the post about the US not having exclusive items recently. I’m not sure if everyone is forgetting about all of the Walgreens beanies that have come out and continue to come out that are only available here in the US. While they may not say “US exclusive” on the site, they are “Walgreens exclusive” and Walgreens are only found in the US (unless I am wrong and they are outside the US). We also from time to time have other US location exclusives. Like the book store, Barnes and Noble and food chain Bob Evans. We do see quite a few beanies in the US that are sold at only US retailers. So I would consider these beanies US exclusives as well.
Jason in TNWas just wondering ... Wouldn't dvd exclusives, etc. be American exclusives? We don't use the same dvds as europeans; and walgreens?
Christinahi Deb - .....What about all the USA exclusives last year? (The UK had none). The UK beanie market is over (my own opinion as a collector) ... and has been for some time. There are now NO Ty retailers where I live, a few years ago there were approx 15 within a 20 mile radius. I think TY has left it far too late for interest in beanies again in the uk.
Hi Debs, In response to your readers comments about the lack of US Ty exclusives - what about the Hallmark and Walgreens exclusives! They're US only as are the WalMart DVD/Beanie combos.. Then there's the baseball 'giveaways'.. I'm sure there are others, but these are the obvious ones. I don't think the US is doing that badly for exclusives when you think about the reduced output of Beanies over the last year.
Steve (Wales)
Hi Deb,
As I said I would, here are pictures of the four Ty Classic bears announced in
February and the full set of Li'l Ones dolls. We are sold out of Bearnie and
Walnut. If anybody is interested in these, they may contact me and I'll consider
another order. These are from the first run of limited release, as I was told
that Bearnie and Boris won't ship again until April due to limitations. Also,
this is the first version of the Li'l Ones. According to our rep, the second
version will come out with hair brushes and possible minor aesthetical updates.
There is potential for quick retirements on some of these, but there is
guarantee from the rep / word at Ty that this version without the brushes will
be a one time run only. Apologies for the blurriness on the Li'l Ones - I wasn't
near light so it the flash reflected off of the plastic covering on the box for
the dolls. Kind of hard to do. The Classics came out pretty nice though.
As always, people may e-mail me or contact me with questions and/or purchases,
or visit my mother's site -
http://fabricfriendsdolls.excitewebpages.com.
We're still in the process of working out some bugs with the online ordering
site, but I plan on launching it very soon. There's a couple of things keeping
it from going live, and I don't want to launch it and have customers finding
complications with the site.
We DO take PayPal now, so if you were holding off on purchasing until PayPal was
available, then there's no wait anymore! Of course, other options are still
available too.
Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Marc

New March Releases
Today Ty has released new March products ... two Beanie Babies, and
several Beanie Boos (large and Key-Clips).
Beanie Babies - Tiny, Prickles
Beanie Boos - Cookie (large), Waddles (large) Safari
(large)
Beanie Boos - Slush (large), Coconut (large)
Beanie Boos - Cleo (large), Bubblegum (large) - both
"Foreign Exclusives"
Beanie Boos Clips - Cookie, Safari, Bamboo, Coconut
Beanie Boos Clips - Slush, Tangerine, Waddles
Beanie Boos Clips - Cleo, Bubblegum - both "Foreign
Exclusives"
One of our readers writes:
Hello Deb,
I love your website and I read it everyday. I'm sorry I have to vent about March intros. I noticed that Cleo and Bubblegum are listed as Foreign exclusive. But where?? Also I noticed that Ty is making too many UK exclusive and where is USA exclusive or Canada and Asia Pacific exclusive what's going on. I'm losing interest. So my personal opinion Ty needs to stop making UK exclusive and time to give another country a chance to have exclusives! Thanks again.
Anonymous
Doodle's note: Unless I'm mistaken, Ty
hasn't had an introduction listed as a "foreign exclusive". I may be
wrong, as I do occasionally have a memory lapse LOL. It will be
interesting to see exactly where Beanie Boos Cleo and Bubblegum (large size and
key-clips) do appear ... guess we shall soon see. Wherever they do appear,
it is apparent it will not be in the U.S. As far as my personal
opinion, I do not agree that Ty needs to necessarily stop making UK Exclusives -
just share the Exclusiveness with other countries occasionally.
Now, do I remember the last U.S. (or any other country) Exclusive Beanie Baby?
Guess I better go double-check that one.
Added note: 3/2 Walgreens Exclusive Beanie Babies Yummy, Smoothie, and
Creamy were noted in a Walgreens' ad on December 26, 2009, and appeared in
stores early January.

Retirements
Our thanks to Rosaleen, who shares news of recent Ty retirements,
including Baby Ty, Beanie Babies, Ty Classics, and Pluffies. Feel free
to drop us a note if you can shed more light on the exact date.
Rosaleen writes:
Deb, Since it is so close to the end of the month-I decided to pull out my Ty print out sheets and check to see if anything might be missing. Now I had checked all of the lists the 14th of January but I hadn't checked since then until this evening.
I found that Baby Growlers Blue is missing from the Baby Ty list. Only three pieces left in that group.
The Beanie Baby list is missing several-The Asia-Pacific set of Diachi, Down Under, Kia Ora, Merlion, Panmunjam, and Tamahairka. Also the 2008 Zodiac Rat is gone. Bounder the kangaroo is missing as is Kowee the koala, Nimbus the bear and Senna-Kun the dog.
Under the Classics-I found Hollibear large , both of the NESS-e pieces and Pinstripes the tiger missing.
In the Pluffies list-I saw that Freezer, Mooer nad Plapper aren't listed anymore.
Now I don't know when these were removed but like I said they were still all listed as current on the 14th of January. Perhaps, another collector will be able to help us with the exact dates. I hope that you're not having the bad storms in your area. Bear hugs, Rosaleen

Honor Roll Beanie Baby
On May 1, 2007, Ty introduced a Ty Store Exclusive, 'Honor Roll; retired
December 27, 2007 (among 200+ Beanie Babies). The graduation dog had a
'2007' cap, and carried a diploma. What's interesting is Honor Roll
has reappeared in Ty Store WITHOUT the cap. (See photos below).
(We assume it's the same dog ... images can be deceiving sometimes (ie
color, facial features, etc.). Maybe this will suffice if you
need a graduation Beanie this year.
Marc shares the following:
" ...The 2007 Ty Store Beanie Baby Honor Roll the dog has been updated with
its mortarboard removed. It still has the diploma in its mouth. This is
similar to the redesigns done on Scholars the bear (Beanie Baby 2.0), Grads
the bear (Ty Classics) and Grad the dog (Ty Classics)."
|
|
|
Added note: Feb 24
Marc also adds: "... Looks like Ty did the same
thing to Smarty, the 2005 graduation owl. Just a removal of the hat. So I
guess this is the third version of that owl." It's only February,
there may be a new graduation Beanie this year {perhaps} without a date
anywhere on it.)."

New York Toy Fair (Additional Info)
Following yesterday's report on the NY Toy Fair, the following
additional information can also be noted:
,,,
Thanks for sharing once again, Marc. I'm anxious to see the Li'l Ones
in person; ... and musical Beanie Babies sounds quite intriguing.
The Li'l Ones are expected to be a big hit and nothing like previous doll lines in the past. I've seen them in person and they appear to be more detailed plastic than vinyl as previously reported. Regardless, they are very small (5") and detailed, and look better than any other doll related line Ty has put out combined, meaning better than the Ty Girlz, Angeline, Beanie Boppers and Beanie Kids combined.
Charlie, Snoopy and Woodstock Beanie Babies will be musical and have a small device inside them that plays Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy", the official Peanuts/Charlie Brown theme song (any Peanuts fan knows how that goes, but if you don't, look for it online). They will retail approximately $5.99 - $6.99 each. More information will come later on these as they are supposedly now an early summer ship date.
Eleanor and Jeanette Beanie Babies will be joined by Alvin and Brittany Beanie Buddies (just the two in Buddy format, no other chipmunks for now) and they will have an early summer ship date as well. Shipping dates/release dates change around with companies all of the time and they're entitled to, so sometimes that makes previous information a little off. so please do not hold this site or anyone else to that.
The regular Beanie Baby line will continue to expand (yes, 2.0's are done and over) and maybe new ideas and concepts are on the horizon. I hope this can only mean more new animals to be released.
The plush lines (most notably Ty Classics) will be limited to safe sellers only, so don't expect to much out of the realm of bears, dogs, cats, monkeys, horses, etc.
To compensate for the plush lines' limited animal designs, the BOO Buddies will provide a venue for more interesting and creative designs going forward. The BOO Buddies and Key-clips do not have an estimated ship date, they may be before all of the licensed characters. My guess - around late April/early May but I don't know for sure.
Kooky the koala and Kiwi the frog will not see a future release in clips or Buddies form; potential future retirement? Maybe, maybe not. The rest of them will see a future release. Blueberry and Lemonade are not announced yet so there's no way of telling whether they'll get future Buddies or clips. In general, I think the BOOS is a great way for Ty to start over his original animal designs again and keep them appealing to kids and adult collectors alike.
I think Ty is finally learning how to please and cater to both markets, the longtime dedicated collectors and the general public looking for a few here or there as gifts or knickknacks. Way to go Ty! Let's get this show on the road.

Katherine writes:
Hi Doodle, Awesome!!! So much to absorb, so much to see, so much to look forward to. Beanies have been a long time hobby of mine, but to be honest, I have slowed down quite a bit with collecting. Like probably many others, I just started buying the ones I really liked over the last year or so. Then it got difficult to even find what I wanted, so I started losing interest. Now that I see what's around the corner, I'm quite excited, and even back in touch with my UK trade friend. I do wish we had a U.S. Exclusive so I could help her with something on this side of the pond! I'm not real fond of asking when I don't have anything really special for her. :( Anyway I'm back on board again, with the fun of 'hunting' for that special one. Boy, does it remind me of "the good ole days". And a Charlie Brown Beanie Baby! .... now THAT would be awesome. Guess we shall see. Thanks so much for keeping us "in touch" with all the news. You're website is always updated and so informative. We thank you so much for all you do! +Katherine+Susan writes:
Hey Doodle Thanks so much for sharing all the latest beanie news happenings. Both Show reports were awesome -- I am so excited. After seeing such repetition (with the same ole, same ole), it's fun to get some renewed excitement. Can't wait to see the new products in person. Just hope I can find what I'm looking for, beanies seems a lot more scarce in my area. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you and the two people who shared the Show reports. Keep up the nice work. Love ur site! <smiles from Susan>
Ted writes:
The new products should show renewed interest as far as longtime collectors are concerned. Many people were probably getting bored with Ty these last several months. I hope to find the key-clips, my grandchildren love them. And the plastic clips are much more preferable, my personal opinion anyway. I may be old, but I love to put a smile on the kid's faces when I bring them a special surprise. Brings back memories when my daughter collected several years ago! Regards, TedSally writes:
BORING BORING BORING. I was disinterested (and asleep) with collecting ANYTHING Ty. I had literally given up and thought "Who cares what Ty does?" But now; hmmm, after seeing what's coming, maybe I'll wake up to the hobby again. TY = thank you. SallyMarc writes
#1. Flower looks way better in person. And the fact that it's a new animal = instant buy.
#2. Dwywen is awesome as well. I love that style of dragon that Ty has done for a few years, and the bright vibrant purple is a nice color and makes it stand out from Legend the dragon. But I wonder why it hasn't been released yet or announced or why we didn't know about it from before - it is for St. Dwynwen's Day, which is January 25th.
#3. Maybe I'm the only one noticing it, but standing next to Dwynwen in the picture is a Dewi Y Ddraig Beanie Baby. Ty only released a Key-clip and Ty Classic version of the green dragon last May. There is no Beanie Baby to accompany it, and I never knew why. Maybe it's just a prototype or a model for scale, but maybe we're finally getting the third product to the set. Although, it wouldn't be the first time products have been canned. Remember last year's Toy Fair? Ty Horsez were supposed to come out after the Petz to accompany the Ty Girlz. But you know how that song and dance goes - Ty Girlz are being phased out by the Li'l Ones, so there's really no point anymore.
#4. All of the new Beanies and other products that we're getting in stock next month are looking good. I'm not disappointed in one style I see, and that's unusual. No complaints.
#6. In the Beanie BOO Buddies (or whatever they decide to call them), I see the following... Bubblegum, Cleo, Bananas (these 3 UK exclusives or just Bananas?), Bamboo, Slush, Tangerine, Cookie, Safari, Waddles, Coconut. So again, every BOO except for Kiwi, Kooky, Lemonade and Blueberry. The only difference between the clips and the Buddies is that there doesn't appear to be a Bananas (UK exclusive) clip but I do see a Buddy for it.
Take care, Marc

Li'l Ones (Silently Appear)
Ty has quietly posted the anxiously awaited Li'l Ones, available to view

New York Toy Fair
As you know, the NY Toy Fair was February 14-17. Thanks to Marc,
who has shared some interesting information on some upcoming surprises we
may see soon. He writes:
Although we were not in attendance at the New York Toy Fair this past weekend, I was told that Ty Warner was there all five days and there was a lot of new stuff to be offered, some not even available in the catalog. More surprises.
I was told by our rep the following:
-->There will be Alvin and the Chipmunks plush to be released (which would mean Beanie Buddies or Ty Classics, probably the latter since it appears Beanie Buddies are being reserved for Nickelodeon characters at the moment and Scooby-Doo will be a Ty Classic as well)
-->The last two Chipettes, Eleanor and Jeanette, will be released as Beanie Babies to complete a full set. Also, it appears all of the Alvin and the Chipmunks Beanie Babies are available to order again, so we may restock those soon. It appears new plush and Beanie Babies are being released since Alvin and the Chipmunks has been greenlighted for a third movie release.
-->There will be Beanie Babies of Snoopy (hopefully it does not look like the 2007 version), Woodstock, and... CHARLIE BROWN. That's right, Charlie Brown is becoming a Beanie Baby. It looks like Ty has a good partnership with the Charles Schulz Foundation now. These were available to order at the show, but for those who weren't there, they should be able to order them in March.
-->There may have been other releases, I will have to go back and confirm them. No pictures available as we didn't attend the show. This is just confirmed word of mouth.
-->This line is a RUMOR, and not to be taken as fact as the other pieces of information are - other potential Beanie Baby lines for upcoming movie series/genres are Shrek (for the fourth and final movie this May), Yogi Bear (for the movie to be released December 2010), and The Jetsons (to be released potentially in 2011). This would make sense as Ty seems to have rights/partnering with both Dreamworks and Hannah Barbera.

Ty Store Additions
Remember the somewhat scarcity of Beanie Baby
'Hugamus'? On December
1, 2008, Ty silently posted Hugamus as a Ty Store Exclusive on the website.
Within two weeks, it disappeared from Ty Store, but was still listed as
'current' on Ty's site. What's interesting is this Beanie now
(re)appears in Ty Store again. And along with this hippo ... LOTS of
new additions.

Sports Giveaways
I'm sure most everyone is looking forward to Spring now! And
typically this time of year, the MLB websites add their promotional items to
the game schedules. Thanks to Dan's keen eye, he shares that the
Chicago Cubs have listed a Cubs/Dora the Explorer 7" plush, Exclusive
limited-edition, May1st vs the Diamondbacks, to the 1st 5,000 children (Age
7 and under). There is no mention of this plush as a Ty-giveaway; we'd
like to assume it is.

'Flower' the Meerkat
If you're interested in the story behind this new Beanie and it's (possible)
origin, you can read below what several have shared:
Marc writes:
I think I figured out now why Flower the meerkat is a Ty UK release. It looks to be named after a popular meerkat from an Animal Planet television series. The footage aired in the UK where the meerkat family lived, and this particular mother died back in 2007 from a snake bite. Why it's just being produced now I'm not sure about but maybe there's an anniversary or memorial or some other commemorative event in 2010 or the near future. That's my best guess for it.
Here's a little background reading:
http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/meerkat/flower/flower.html
Marty writes:
Flower the meerkat (Animal Planet series) was the dominant female in a matriarchal group. This guy seems very male. Marty
Cindy writes:
To correct a bit of incorrect information regarding the meerkats of Meerkat Manor. They did not live in the UK. The meerkats lived in the Kuruman River Reserve in South Africa in the Kalahari Desert. The professor leading the study is a professor at the University of Cambridge. Cindy W.
... Doodle's note: Thanks for sharing! I'm a meerkat novice,
and really clueless at this point. I knew what they looked like, but their
background? ... Like I said, I'm a rookie on this one! :) And still
unsure why this Beanie is a UK Exclusive.

New UK Exclusive Beanie Baby - 'Flower'
It looks like a new UK Exclusive Beanie Baby will be making an appearance
soon. One of our readers (Rosaleen), with a very sharp eye, writes:
Hi Deb, I was checking the Ty site-searching for the Walgreens exclusive Hershey Kiss bears-Creamy, Smoothy and Yummy-no listing there yet. However, the Easter Hello Kitty pieces have been added but not the Valentine Hello Kitty pieces. While I was scrolling down I came upon the name Flower - a Meercat which was listed as a U.K. Exclusive but there is no photo posted as yet. Perhaps one of our U.K. friends will be able to provide some further information. Also Isabella has finally come out of "hiding" and has appeared on the current Classic list. Still no listing for Madison though. Bear hugs, Rosaleen

Added to the List ... (and Birthdays)
It looks like Ty is being a bit quicker on adding new releases to the
currents listing on the site. And some of the birthdays are even
posted as well. Rosaleen writes:
Hi Deb, I was on the Ty site earlier and surprised to see that some of the new releases have been added to their respective catalogs. All of the new beanie babies are there with the exception of Sequoia the bear. I also found the birthdays for some of them. Bently has a birthdate of 09-03-2009. Patches has a birthdate of 11-27-2009 and Yodel has a birthdate of 11-02-2009. I wasn't able to find Pinky and Sequoia yet. Still nothing of the new Walgreens Hershey Kiss bears though-Creamy, Smoothie and Yummy nor the latest Walgreens Hello Kitty pieces.
Also all of the new Boo's have been added as have some of the Classics. I didn't see Madison and Isabella is still hiding as well.
Thanks for all of your hard work in keeping the Ty community updated as to the current happenings.

2009 Cancer Awareness Beanie
Following yesterday's post regarding a 2009 Cancer Awareness Beanie Baby,
Rosaleen writes:
Good Morning Deb,
After reading your website this morning-I had to check my Cancer Bears. I recall the ad from Walgreens that Marc was referencing and I had bought a bear because it is a very pretty bear. I happened to have the original one sitting near me in a case so I compared the two-they appear to be identical in every manner. Like I said before-in any case it is a very nice looking bear and for a good cause.

Hello Kitty - cat (Easter - yellow overalls)

Beanie Key-Clip Changes
If you are a Key-Clip collector, you will definitely want to make note of
some upcoming changes. Marc reports that Ty has changed the style of
key-clips used on some of the styles. These include the retired
Dazzler Key-Clip Pinky and the current Rosa Key-Clip Pinky. Maybe the
change involves a safety factor? We'll probably never know. But
photos below will show some of the changes anticipated with (a few of) the
Key-Clips.
(images
courtesy of
Fabric Friends and Dolls)
Hi, As I mentioned in a previous e-mail, Ty has changed the style of key-clip used (on most, but not all) of the Beanie Key-clip styles. This includes the retired Dazzler Key-clip Pinky and the current Rosa Key-clip Pinky. here are pictures of the styles that were given an upgrade. Why some were chosen and not others beats me. Probably since these were the ones in the catalog and these were the ones Ty is pushing to sell as the best styles. I don't know if your readers are interested in something like that, it's just basic information to keep turning the wheel and keeping people interested in buying or the world of Ty news.
As I stated before, I guess Ty thought the metal clips could be unsafe or a hazard to children so they went with less harmful plastic clips, as we've seen on the newer styles like Bo, Snoopy and Woodstock, Hello Kitty, etc.
Regards,
Marc

2009 Cancer Awareness Beanie
One of our readers, Marc H of PA, writes:
Hi Deb!
I think this is the first time I've written to you. You seem to be the only Beanie site left that's open/active that I know of any more.
It's been getting increasingly difficult to find Beanies and there's been a lot of them I've missed out on over the past few years because the stores never seem to get anything in. And I'm not in a small town either. I live in a decent size suburban area (not too far from Phila., PA) and there's a number of Hallmarks and several Walgreens as well. There's a Barnes & Noble which I don't frequent and a Borders Express in the mall which I glance in on occasion. Another store I used to get some stuff in no longer carries Ty. The Hallmarks don't seem to be getting in much new stock and the one I mainly shop at (which is one of a large "chain" under one name-maybe 15+ stores) doesn't even get everything they order. Walgreens are hit or miss...sometimes they'll have the exclusives, other times not.
Anyway, the reason I'm writing is to try to find out if there was a Ty Beanie Baby bear for breast cancer in 2009. I tried going through your archived news and found nothing for last year but in Aug. 2008, Support was released. What puzzles me is that I have a piece of a Walgreens ad from Sept. 27-Oct. 3, 2009 that reads Ty 2009 Breast Cancer Awareness Bear $4.99 and has a picture which looks like Support the bear. Do you (or anyone) know if there was actually a bear released in 2009? I'll try to send a scan in later if I can but this has me wondering since there was never anything I know of announced last year.Marc
Doodle's note: Thanks for writing,
Marc. Many will agree with you, no matter where they live - Beanies
are becoming more and more difficult to find. It's just easier
for me (personally) to order online - it saves time, money, and frustration.
To the best of my knowledge, 'Support' was the last Cancer Awareness Beanie
that Ty introduced (August 1, 2008). Unless my memory is failing, or I
totally missed it, there was no Beanie introduced last year for Cancer
Awareness. I guess with a birthday in 2007, and introduced in 2008, we
can call it a 2009 Breast Cancer Awareness Bear :)

Renewed Excitement
Are you a long-time collector, and remember 'the way it was'?
David does, and shares the following:
Deb,
I just wanted to drop you a line to say that I really appreciate the work you're doing to keep the Beanie excitement going! For me, it's getting harder to find Beanies. There is one Hallmark an hour from where I live that just recently started getting new Beanies again. (They even had several of the Beanie Boos!) Other than that, I have to rely on Walgreens, which usually only carry holiday or Walgreen exclusive Beanies.
But I have to say, lately I've been getting much more excited about the new releases! Especially with your announcement of February's releases, I'm gaining more interest in what's coming out--something that I didn't have for a couple years. It seems like maybe Ty is going back to some of the ways us veteran collectors remember: no BB2.0, less copy-catting, and more simple, cute Beanies. Of course, I'm also super stoked about the new Peace bears! Sort of makes me want to get back into the Peace Mania business again, but time just doesn't allow for it. Of course, I will be buying as many of the variations as I can to add to my Peace bear collection. haha
Thanks again for keeping the spark alive. I've been enjoying the way you only reveal bits of interest at a time. Sort of takes me back to the days that were filled with wild rumors and when the phrases "expect the unexpected" and "Tyme will tell" actually meant something.
David

New Releases
As you know, and as I noted earlier, new products for February / March are
just around the corner. Just keep an eye on the Ty website. :)
Some of the new (anticipated) releases are quite different (and yes, some
very similar) to products from the past. Just keep in mind, as always,
nothing is 'written in stone' until it's official. A good example is
'Gus', the gecko. It appears that the 'next' Gus MAY have different
color eyes that the first issue. Bently the cat may or may
not have a collar. And Scooby-Doo Ty Classic may be Scooby-Dooby Doo.
No one knows for sure until they are announced and/or we see the hang tags.
I do know, from all
the emails received ... there seems to be sparked interest lately,
especially with some of the new products. We know the history of past
Beanies will NEVER be the same ... but the memories will always be there.
Collecting Beanies is a hobby some just can't give up; some buy certain ones
as they're just too irresistible. Whatever the reason, enjoy and happy
collecting!

A Self-Made Ty Jacket
Thanks to Barb (The Shutterbug) for sharing another one of her crafty ideas
:) She writes:
... Thanks for sharing, Barb ... once again, such originality!
Doodles—one more time— When TY ended its association with MasterCard plan I was left with quite a few credits. I acquired these two sweat shirts in the only size they had left— Men’s XLARGE. Of course they were huge on me so I altered them. I slit them down the front and sewed on fun binding ribbon –then I shortened the sleeves and WAA-LAA—had 2 great casual, and very warm, toss on jacket coats, perfect for around the house or a quick run to the grocery.
The fun continues,

Some days are just tooo long. (Wilbur is the only new retirement from
the posted list that I'm aware of.)

Although I have never had a sponsor on this website, after almost 15 years,
I do highly recommend the 'Fabric

the site.)
You can see all the products that they have to
offer, including pre-sales on the new Ty products soon to come.
And
check out the specials while you're there. You won't be disappointed.

Walgreens Hello Kitty Jelly Belly Info
Our thanks
to Rosaleen, who kindly shares the hang tag information, style numbers, and more
on the Walgreens Hello Kitty Jelly Belly Beanie Babies. She writes:
Hi Deb, I notice that you have already received pictures of the Walgreens Hello Kitty pieces. I would just like to add that there is no mention on the tag that they're Walgreens exclusives. Needless to say mine have had their candy packets removed already-not for eating though. The style number is the same on both-40814 and they're the same as the Hello Kitty style number 40817. The inside of the hang tags are different. Style number 40814 reads Hello Kitty was born November 1st in London, England. Her hobbies include travel, music, reading and making new friends. Style number 40817 reads HELLO KITTY You can never have too many friends. Another difference is the bows. Style # 40814 comes with either a red bow with small white valentines or a red bow with a large red heart for the center. The regular Hello Kitty style # 40817 has just a regular small red bow.
Bear hugs, Rosaleen
Doodle's
note:
The store display box mentions 'available only at Walgreens'; however, there
is no mention on the hang tag. :)
... Thanks to both Rosaleen and Dan
for sharing / clarifying.

A Crafty Idea
To add a bit of color and news to the site, I want to share a
crafty idea one of my readers has done ... a nice beach / pool "cover-up".
It's a great project idea while we're sitting inside a warm home, patiently
waiting for the colder weather to subside.

Exclusives and More (Update)
As a follow-up to yesterday's post, we have received the
following emails ...
I agree about the challenge of finding Beanie Babies. I live in Jacksonville, NC, which is in the eastern part of the state. None of the Hallmark stores in my area carry beanies anymore. I can usually find the Walgreens exclusive and seasonal beanies at Walgreens. For a long time, I could find them all at Cracker Barrel, but they now seem to carry mostly seasonal ones. Lately, the best place for me to find them has been at our Books a Million Store here in town. I also internet shop to find the ones I miss in the stores. Cindy W.
Hi Deb - Just checked out your site, and thought I would let you know that I have very few places in my area (Ithaca, NY, Finger Lakes region of NY state) that still carry Beanies. The few places that have them, a few drug stores, a grocery store, seem to not have ordered any of the newest ones. I too get most of my Beanies off Internet websites, although once in awhile I will try to find the Walgreen exclusives at a Walgreen's that is about a 30 minute drive from me. I usually call first, to see if they have them in. Hope you had a nice weekend !! Mary
Hi Deb: Just commenting on your post about beanies....yes, you are correct......it seems as if beanies at Hallmarks are on their way out. Many Hallmarks have discontinued ordering of beans long ago and/or order only VERY LIMITED number of them. The prices have gone up to $7.95 on all beans (2.0 and regular lines) at many locations and the exclusives have been much harder to find this year. Walgreens and many grocery stores now carry beans priced at $4.99; why would anyone buy them at Hallmark? You can use the Gold Crown rewards certificate on Hallmark exclusives, IF, you can find them and IF there will be any more created.
Dollar stores becoming so popular in this ecomony with people buying XMAS and all occasion gift wrap & cards, there is no doubt more Hallmark franchises will be closing down this year. That's all for now...Happy Belated Birthday to You! Nancy Canton, GA
We live close to columbus oh so we can still find plenty of beanies. We used to live in VA and they were actually being easier to find in stores! more stores were carrying them... Make sure and check your local giant stores. They sometimes carry beanies, but they will charge 7.00 apiece. christina
Doodle's added note:
... If you are having trouble locating Beanies, and do 'internet shop', I
personally recommend the 'Fabric
Friends and Dolls' website. As a
side note, starting tomorrow, they will be running a free shipping special in
the United States/Canada for all Ty products (or Webkinz products, can mix and
match) when you spend $100 in the store on those products. A lot of things are
on discount. (They have even gone the extra mile in helping me locate a couple
of items I haven't been able to find.)

Exclusives and More
From several
emails I have received, it appears another Walgreens' Exclusive Beanie Baby may
be available soon. As you know, there have been no Hallmark Exclusives for
some time. Looks like those may be a thing of the past. (My
personal opinion, anyway.) So Walgreens in, Hallmark out? We shall
see.
Beanie Babies seem to be harder and harder to find, and I do know there are quite a few new Beanies 'on the horizon'. So where are we to find them? I personally enjoy 'Internet shopping' ... it's easier and in many cases, a cost savings. It's especially nice on these cold winter days, shopping in the warmth of my home! :)
I just don't see many Ty products in my area anymore. Wish to share your opinion? Do you find what you're looking for in your area? Feel free to drop me a note at news@doodlespage.com.

Ty Store Update
Our thanks to Rosaleen, who shares the following:
Hi Deb, I hope that you're doing well. I was just checking out the Ty store and I noticed that within the past couple of days Ty has added a new section to the store. He now has the Ice Age Beanies - Buck, Diego, Manny and Sid all listed for the price of $5.99 each. Perhaps someone else may be able to confirm the exact date for us.
Bear hugs, Rosaleen
Click here to view Ice Age Beanies in Ty Store
Rosaleen further adds:
I would like to wish you a Happy Belated Birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Did you also notice that Ty has dropped the price on all of the boxed Angeline pieces to $4.99 each? They were originally $7.99 each. I decided to do a "wee bit" more searching and discovered that. Also Max and Ruby have disappeared from the list. I did a search on the Ty store and it came up "no matches found"
Bear hugs and again a Belated Happy Birthday!

No More Beanie Baby 2.0's?
We have received word from a very reliable source that Ty is merging the
Beanie Babies 2.0 line with the 'regular' Beanie Babies. I guess that
isn't too surprising, with the lack of BB2.0 releases lately. (BB2.0's
first arrived in January 2008. So, out with the old and in with the new
... the next line being the Lil' Ones. Additional Information will be
posted soon. So stay tuned!

Help Haiti
One of our readers, Rosaleen, shares the following:
Hi Deb,
Did you notice that Ty says a portion of the sale of the Valentine beanies on the homepage say Help Haiti? Now I am wondering if that includes all of the Valentine beanies or just certain ones. I also saw that two of the Valenteenies listed at the very bottom of the homepage said the same thing. Keep dry! Very rainy here in PA. today.

An added note from a reader:
Hi Deb:
Just some added info on the new Walgreens set that you have posted since December 26th -They arrived 3 weeks later at a local Walgreens here in my neighborhood. Not many locations had them in at last check, on Friday; they may be limited in availability. One box of 20 (for those that did get them) and the numbers are 6 each of the red and brown and 8 of the white bears. I'm a little disappointed in this issue, as the faces are much smaller (mousey looking) in comparison to the first set, and it seems the amount of beans stuffed in these bears has been reduced also. This is just my personal opinion.

A Note From Karen
Karen Holmes (aka Karenbrit), Editor of Ty Beanies Tracker, has sent
the following message which we'd like to share:
Hi All
2010? What happened to the years between us talking about Millennium beanie baby with 1 ‘n’ and 2 ‘n’s, to now? Amazing how time flies and I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.
For those keeping track of things since the Third Edition Book, I'm sorry I've not updated since September 2009, but hospital visits and other things had to take priority. To those who have been keeping good records from September 2009 to now, please contact me in February 2010 and I'll try to find time to work on getting everything up-to-date. Thank you Deb, www.doodlespage.com for keeping the candle burning in Beanie Land!
To those who were asking about my collection, yes, I am still selling it, that also took a back burner for a while, and I have just updated the list on my website taking off what has sold and leaving what is remaining. I did drop the prices on some, and am willing to go down on some other higher ones, so see if there's anything you need to fill the gaps in your collections or to give as gifts.
http://www.karenbrit.com/extras.html
I think I have to be the slowest seller on earth listing on ebay. I seem to have a knack for complicating it, and at the speed I list, the chances are you'll have time to grab what you want off my website before I get it to ebay, or elsewhere, to sell. Please do stay in touch.
Love: Karen

A Few Additions/Changes to Ty's Listings
Finally ... 'Hippity' and 'Hoppity" have made it to Ty's current list.
(Both were introduced by Ty on January 1st.) And the Ty Girlz 'Amazing
Abby' and 'Beautiful Briana' are listed as 'retired' (click
here) on Ty's main website, although there is no mention of their
retirement on the
Ty Girlz website.
Our thanks to Rosaleen, who writes:
Hi Deb, I was checking the Ty site and the two bunnies-Hippity and Hoppity have been added to the current beanie baby list as was Smitten-he/she has finally come out of hiding. I also noticed that the Ty Girlz-Amazing Abby and Beautiful Brianna are no longer on the current list. Also the Classics-Dipper and Dreamland are missing. The Hello Kitty pieces still haven't been corrected and not all of them have been added-the Hello Kitty beanie bunnies are still missing as are the key-clips-Snoopy and Woodstock. Perhaps we might get caught up before the February releases. Still no news on the Lil' Ones-I guess.
Keep warm and Bear hugs, Rosaleen

Dolls (Barbies, Ginny, Madame Alexander, and more) ... you need to check out

from, and if you don't see something you're looking for, just ask.
After visiting the site and 'talking' with them, I was quite impressed, and
feel the website is well worth mentioning. There are fewer and fewer
specialty stores that now offer what people have enjoyed buying and/or
collecting. Maybe they will have just what you're looking for.
They have helped me in the past; I just feel the need to return the favor.

Dipper - dolphin
Dreamland - horse
Note: It was mentioned that 'Gus' the gecko (with green eyes) has been redesigned with reddish-orange eyes. This has been one of the tougher-to-find Beanies; I haven't seen one yet! ('Gus' was introduced on June 16, 2009.)

Ty Products - Update
I know many (especially long time) collectors have been wondering
(especially lately) what is going on with Ty. The website isn't
currently up-to-date, retirements are almost nil, recent releases seem a tad
'boring' to some. etc. But from word I have been receiving, it's not
over yet. Maybe just a little lull in the air ... it is quite cold in
a major part of the nation, ya know! There is still a lot of good
'stuff' around the corner, for February and March. Just keep an eye on the site, we'll be sharing
more soon.

Beautiful Brianna
Doodle's note: As we've mentioned before, I really wish that the Ty
products lists on Ty's website was kept a bit more current. What's an
official release date or retirement date when they aren't officially
announced? It's almost impossible to catch ALL of them. For
example, there's no sign of 'Smitten' Beanie Baby anywhere on Ty's site.
And the Ty Classic 'Inaugural', the N.Y. Yankees Exclusive, is still shown
as "current" on Ty's website, etc. etc. We do try to keep up with it
... and appreciate any and all input from our readers.

Where Are They?
One of our readers,
Steve from Wales, shares the following:
Hi Deb, Have I missed something? No one seems to have mentioned the 'non appearance' of a Billionaire Bear for 2009... is this a reflection of Ty's attitude to his Beanie Babie business? I think it sad that Ty seems to be 'indifferent' to the many years of loyalty shown by his fans and collectors '...a case in point with his non updating of the 'current' list on his web site! I know people refer to the old adage 'Expect the unexpected' but does this really account for the apparent 'indifference' currently being shown by Ty?
Steve (Wales)
Doodle's note:
I thought perhaps the
December releases would at least appear on Ty's current list when the
January introduction appeared. But as of yet, that hasn't happened.
And after eleven Billionaire bears, we all "expected" to hear something
regarding a Billionaire 12. But unless I missed something as well,
that didn't happen either. Mention was made several months ago from a
reader, wondering if #12 was even in existence. It seems Ty is slowly
dissolving, evaporating from this "collectible hobby". Perhaps we
'expected' a more abrupt halt than the slow dissipation of Beanies. I
suppose, as we say ... "tyme will tell" once again.

New January Releases
Today Ty has
introduced new releases for January ... four Beanie Babies, two Key-Clips, three
Basket Beanies, and a Ty Classic.

- one yellow & pink, one green & pink
Key-Clips
Snoopy, Woodstock
Basket Beanies
Bobsy, Hobsy, Topsy

Ty Classic
Fielding

Added note: A few of
our readers have noted the following:
Good Afternoon Deb,
I was checking the website and found that Ty has released a couple of new pieces and also he has re-released some others. There are two new beanie bunnies-Hoppity and Hippity-very cute-I like the patterened feet and ears. Also two Hello Kitty pieces with bunny ears. Two new key-clips: Snoopy and Woodstock. Ty has re-released three of the basket beanies from a prior year-Bobsy, Hobsy and Topsy. In addition there is a Classic re-release Fielding the rabbit.
Bear hugs, Rosaleen

HI AGAIN DEB
I JUST SEEN THE NEW RELEASES ON E-BAY. I MUST SAY I DO LIKE THE SNOOPY KEY CLIP. EVEN THOUGH I MAINLY JUST COLLECT BEARSI WILL HAVE TO BREAK DOWN AND GET ONE OF THOSE. THAT GETS ME WONDERING I WAS THINKING MAYBE KNOTTSBERRTY FARM WILL HAVE THERE OWN TY VERSIONS WITH SPECIAL TAG SNOOPY & WOODSTOCK. I GUESS TYME WILL TELL ON THAT
DANHappy New Year to you and yours. Thank you so much for continuing to cover Beanie Baby news on your site. Just a short note to make an observation that the Basket Beanies (Bobsy, Hobsy and Topsy) that Ty introduced for January of 2010 are NOT new... I think this trio was introduced in February of 2007. Does anyone else agree? Just wondering,
Vicky the Triple Lady
