Retirements
Our thanks to Rosaleen, who shares news of recent Ty retirements,
including Baby Ty, Beanie Babies, Ty Classics, and Pluffies. Feel free
to drop us a note if you can shed more light on the exact date.
Rosaleen writes:
Deb, Since it is so
close to the end of the month-I decided to pull out my Ty print out
sheets and check to see if anything might be missing. Now I had
checked all of the lists the 14th of January but I hadn't checked since
then until this evening.
I found that Baby Growlers Blue is missing from the
Baby Ty list. Only three
pieces left in that group.
The Beanie Baby list is
missing several-The Asia-Pacific set of Diachi, Down Under, Kia Ora,
Merlion, Panmunjam, and Tamahairka. Also the 2008 Zodiac Rat is gone.
Bounder the kangaroo is missing as is Kowee the koala, Nimbus the bear
and Senna-Kun the dog.
Under the Classics-I
found Hollibear large , both of the NESS-e pieces and Pinstripes the
tiger missing.
In the Pluffies list-I
saw that Freezer, Mooer nad Plapper aren't listed anymore.
Now I don't know when these were removed but like I said they were still
all listed as current on the 14th of January. Perhaps, another collector
will be able to help us with the exact dates. I hope that you're
not having the bad storms in your area. Bear
hugs, Rosaleen

Honor Roll Beanie Baby
On May 1, 2007, Ty introduced a Ty Store Exclusive, 'Honor Roll; retired
December 27, 2007 (among 200+ Beanie Babies). The graduation dog had a
'2007' cap, and carried a diploma. What's interesting is Honor Roll
has reappeared in Ty Store WITHOUT the cap. (See photos below).
(We assume it's the same dog ... images can be deceiving sometimes (ie
color, facial features, etc.). Maybe this will suffice if you
need a graduation Beanie this year.
Marc shares the following:
" ...The 2007 Ty Store Beanie Baby Honor Roll the dog has been updated with
its mortarboard removed. It still has the diploma in its mouth. This is
similar to the redesigns done on Scholars the bear (Beanie Baby 2.0), Grads
the bear (Ty Classics) and Grad the dog (Ty Classics)."

Retired 12/27/07 |

Honor Roll - Ty Store Exclusive
February 2010
(currently available)
|
Added note: Feb 24
Marc also adds: "... Looks like Ty did the same
thing to Smarty, the 2005 graduation owl. Just a removal of the hat. So I
guess this is the third version of that owl." It's only February,
there may be a new graduation Beanie this year {perhaps} without a date
anywhere on it.)."

New York Toy Fair (Additional Info)
Following yesterday's report on the NY Toy Fair, the following
additional information can also be noted:
,,,
Thanks for sharing once again, Marc. I'm anxious to see the Li'l Ones
in person; ... and musical Beanie Babies sounds quite intriguing.
-
The Li'l Ones are expected to be
a big hit and nothing like previous doll lines in the past. I've seen them
in person and they appear to be more detailed plastic than vinyl as
previously reported. Regardless, they are very small (5") and detailed, and
look better than any other doll related line Ty has put out combined,
meaning better than the Ty Girlz, Angeline, Beanie Boppers and Beanie Kids
combined.
-
Charlie, Snoopy and Woodstock Beanie
Babies will be musical and have a small device inside them that
plays Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy", the official Peanuts/Charlie
Brown theme song (any Peanuts fan knows how that goes, but if you don't,
look for it online). They will retail approximately $5.99 - $6.99 each. More
information will come later on these as they are supposedly now an early
summer ship date.
-
Eleanor and Jeanette Beanie Babies
will be joined by Alvin and
Brittany Beanie Buddies (just the two in Buddy format, no other
chipmunks for now) and they will have an early summer ship date as well.
Shipping dates/release dates change around with companies all of the time
and they're entitled to, so sometimes that makes previous information a
little off. so please do not hold this site or anyone else to that.
-
The regular Beanie Baby line
will continue to expand (yes, 2.0's are done and over) and maybe new ideas
and concepts are on the horizon. I hope this can only mean more new animals
to be released.
-
The plush lines (most notably Ty
Classics) will be limited to safe sellers only, so don't expect to much out
of the realm of bears, dogs, cats, monkeys, horses, etc.
-
To compensate for the plush
lines' limited animal designs, the BOO Buddies will provide a venue for more
interesting and creative designs going forward. The BOO Buddies and
Key-clips do not have an estimated ship date, they may be before all of the
licensed characters. My guess - around late April/early May but I don't know
for sure.
-
Kooky the koala and Kiwi the
frog will not see a future release in clips or Buddies form; potential
future retirement? Maybe, maybe not. The rest of them will see a future
release. Blueberry and Lemonade are not announced yet so there's no way of
telling whether they'll get future Buddies or clips. In general, I think the
BOOS is a great way for Ty to start over his original animal designs again
and keep them appealing to kids and adult collectors alike.
I think Ty is finally
learning how to please and cater to both markets, the longtime dedicated
collectors and the general public looking for a few here or there as gifts
or knickknacks. Way to go Ty! Let's get this show on the road.

Comments from Readers
You may have noticed there has been quite a spark in Ty releases lately
... and lots of new products are just around the corner. Posted below
are various comments shared by readers. )There have been some
interesting observations from information / photos we have recently posted.)

Thanks to all for sharing
Katherine writes:
Hi Doodle,
Awesome!!! So much to absorb, so much to see, so much to look forward
to. Beanies have been a long time hobby of mine, but to be honest, I
have slowed down quite a bit with collecting. Like probably many
others, I just started buying the ones I really liked over the last year or
so. Then it got difficult to even find what I wanted, so I started
losing interest. Now that I see what's around the corner, I'm quite
excited, and even back in touch with my UK trade friend. I do wish we
had a U.S. Exclusive so I could help her with something on this side of the
pond! I'm not real fond of asking when I don't have anything
really special for her. :( Anyway I'm back on board again,
with the fun of 'hunting' for that special one. Boy, does it remind me
of "the good ole days". And a Charlie Brown Beanie Baby! .... now THAT
would be awesome. Guess we shall see. Thanks so much for keeping
us "in touch" with all the news. You're website is always updated and
so informative. We thank you so much for all you do! +Katherine+
Susan writes:
Hey Doodle
Thanks so much for sharing all the latest beanie news happenings. Both
Show reports were awesome -- I am so excited. After seeing such
repetition (with the same ole, same ole), it's fun to get some renewed
excitement. Can't wait to see the new products in person. Just
hope I can find what I'm looking for, beanies seems a lot more scarce in my
area. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you and the two people who shared
the Show reports. Keep up the nice work. Love ur site!
<smiles from Susan>
Ted writes:
The new products should
show renewed interest as far as longtime collectors are concerned.
Many people were probably getting bored with Ty these last several months.
I hope to find the key-clips, my grandchildren love them. And the
plastic clips are much more preferable, my personal opinion anyway. I
may be old, but I love to put a smile on the kid's faces when I bring them a
special surprise. Brings back memories when my daughter collected
several years ago! Regards, Ted
Sally writes:
BORING BORING BORING.
I was disinterested (and asleep) with collecting ANYTHING Ty. I had
literally given up and thought "Who cares what Ty does?" But now;
hmmm, after seeing what's coming, maybe I'll wake up to the hobby again.
TY = thank you. Sally
Marc writes
#1. Flower looks
way better in person. And the fact that it's a new animal = instant buy.
#2. Dwywen is awesome as well. I love that style of dragon that Ty has done
for a few years, and the bright vibrant purple is a nice color and makes it
stand out from Legend the dragon. But I wonder why it hasn't been released
yet or announced or why we didn't know about it from before - it is for St.
Dwynwen's Day, which is January 25th.
#3. Maybe I'm the only one noticing it, but standing next to Dwynwen in the
picture is a Dewi Y Ddraig Beanie Baby. Ty only released a Key-clip
and Ty Classic version of the green dragon last May. There is no Beanie Baby
to accompany it, and I never knew why. Maybe it's just a prototype or a
model for scale, but maybe we're finally getting the third product to the
set. Although, it wouldn't be the first time products have been canned.
Remember last year's Toy Fair? Ty Horsez were supposed to come out after the
Petz to accompany the Ty Girlz. But you know how that song and dance
goes - Ty Girlz are being phased out by the Li'l Ones, so there's really no
point anymore.
#4. All of the new Beanies and other products that we're getting in stock
next month are looking good. I'm not disappointed in one style I see, and
that's unusual. No complaints.
#6. In the Beanie BOO Buddies (or whatever they decide to call them), I see
the following... Bubblegum, Cleo, Bananas (these 3 UK exclusives or just
Bananas?), Bamboo, Slush, Tangerine, Cookie, Safari, Waddles, Coconut. So
again, every BOO except for Kiwi, Kooky, Lemonade and Blueberry. The only
difference between the clips and the Buddies is that there doesn't appear to
be a Bananas (UK exclusive) clip but I do see a Buddy for it.
Take care, Marc

New York Toy Fair
As you know, the NY Toy Fair was February 14-17. Thanks to Marc,
who has shared some interesting information on some upcoming surprises we
may see soon. He writes:
Although we were not in
attendance at the New York Toy Fair this past weekend, I was told that Ty
Warner was there all five days and there was a lot of new stuff to be
offered, some not even available in the catalog. More surprises.
I was told by our rep the following:
-->There will be Alvin and the Chipmunks plush to be released (which would
mean Beanie Buddies or Ty Classics, probably the latter since it appears
Beanie Buddies are being reserved for Nickelodeon characters at the moment
and Scooby-Doo will be a Ty Classic as well)
-->The last two Chipettes, Eleanor and Jeanette, will be released as Beanie
Babies to complete a full set. Also, it appears all of the Alvin and the
Chipmunks Beanie Babies are available to order again, so we may restock
those soon. It appears new plush and Beanie Babies are being released since
Alvin and the Chipmunks has been greenlighted for a third movie release.
-->There will be Beanie Babies of Snoopy (hopefully it does not look like
the 2007 version), Woodstock, and...
CHARLIE BROWN. That's right, Charlie
Brown is becoming a Beanie Baby. It looks like Ty has a good partnership
with the Charles Schulz Foundation now.
These were available to order at the
show, but for those who weren't there, they should be able to order them in
March.
-->There may have been other releases, I will have to go back and confirm
them. No pictures available as we didn't attend the show. This is just
confirmed word of mouth.
-->This line is a RUMOR, and not to be taken as fact as the other pieces of
information are - other potential Beanie Baby lines for upcoming movie
series/genres are Shrek (for the fourth and final movie this May), Yogi Bear
(for the movie to be released December 2010), and The Jetsons (to be
released potentially in 2011). This would make sense as Ty seems to have
rights/partnering with both Dreamworks and Hannah Barbera.
Regards, Marc

Ty Store Additions
Remember the somewhat scarcity of Beanie Baby
'Hugamus'? On December
1, 2008, Ty silently posted Hugamus as a Ty Store Exclusive on the website.
Within two weeks, it disappeared from Ty Store, but was still listed as
'current' on Ty's site. What's interesting is this Beanie now
(re)appears in Ty Store again. And along with this hippo ... LOTS of
new additions.

Sports Giveaways
I'm sure most everyone is looking forward to Spring now! And
typically this time of year, the MLB websites add their promotional items to
the game schedules. Thanks to Dan's keen eye, he shares that the
Chicago Cubs have listed a Cubs/Dora the Explorer 7" plush, Exclusive
limited-edition, May1st vs the Diamondbacks, to the 1st 5,000 children (Age
7 and under). There is no mention of this plush as a Ty-giveaway; we'd
like to assume it is.

NEC - UK Show Report
As noted in yesterday's Show Report news, I will be posting some
additional information soon. From the email responses I have received
from collectors recently, Ty seems to have sparked the 'hobby' a bit, with a
nice variation of upcoming products. Many can't wait to see the new
'line' of Beanie Boos (key-clips and Buddy/Classic size), as well as the
Li'l Ones ... and more! :)

my apologies if I don't answer your emails right away. (I always try

scarce to find than others.

'Flower' the Meerkat
If you're interested in the story behind this new Beanie and it's (possible)
origin, you can read below what several have shared:
-
Marc writes:
I think I figured out now why Flower the meerkat is a Ty UK release. It
looks to be named after a popular meerkat from an Animal Planet
television series. The footage aired in the UK where the meerkat family
lived, and this particular mother died back in 2007 from a snake bite.
Why it's just being produced now I'm not sure about but maybe there's an
anniversary or memorial or some other commemorative event in 2010 or the
near future. That's my best guess for it.
Here's a little background reading:
http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/meerkat/flower/flower.html
... Doodle's note: Thanks for sharing! I'm a meerkat novice,
and really clueless at this point. I knew what they looked like, but their
background? ... Like I said, I'm a rookie on this one! :) And still
unsure why this Beanie is a UK Exclusive.

Tag Generation Change
It looks like a new generation hang tag can be found on some of the newest
Beanies. Thanks to Mary for sharing the following:
Hi.
Just got my Easter Hello Kitty beanies (and yes they're cute!) and the
Easter bunnies (Hippity and Hoppity). I see that there's a different
swing tag on them! Now there's three white stars - one larger than the
other two - to the left of the yellow "beanie babies" on the front of
the tag. Tush tag seems to have stayed the same.

New UK Exclusive Beanie Baby - 'Flower'
It looks like a new UK Exclusive Beanie Baby will be making an appearance
soon. One of our readers (Rosaleen), with a very sharp eye, writes:
Hi Deb, I
was checking the Ty site-searching for the Walgreens exclusive Hershey
Kiss bears-Creamy, Smoothy and Yummy-no listing there yet. However, the
Easter Hello Kitty pieces have been added but not the Valentine Hello
Kitty pieces. While I was scrolling down I came upon the name
Flower - a Meercat which was
listed as a U.K. Exclusive but there is no photo posted as yet.
Perhaps one of our U.K. friends will be able to provide some further
information. Also Isabella has finally come out of "hiding"
and has appeared on the current Classic list. Still no listing for
Madison though. Bear hugs, Rosaleen
Doodle's note: Thanks for sharing,
Rosaleen! I did check
Ty's Beanie Baby current listings, and
you're correct. 'Flower' the meerkat is listed there- but no pic.
Maybe soon. We shall see!

Gus the Gecko
As you may recall, we shared news earlier of a slight eye-color change
expected with the 'Gus' Beanie Baby shipping this month. One of our
readers, Nancy, shares the following:
Hi Deb:
Just thought I'd tell you that I saw the newer version of this lizard at
Cracker Barrel and at a Hallmark. There is no difference other than the
eyes, which appear to be all black. I prefer the first version and did not
purchase the newer reptile; just letting you know that they are out there
now.

Ty 'Billionaire 12' Bear
I had a reader recently asked if I was aware of a new Billionaire Bear.
